My approach
A space where you can be yourself
Being neurodivergent means to operate in a way that is different to the way we're taught we're supposed to be. You may have spent years masking, adapting, and editing yourself to fit a world that wasn't built for you.
Therapy with me is a space to stop pretending. It's a space to start understanding who you are and how to make it easier to be you.
Living in a world designed around neurotypical needs can leave you feeling:
-
Exhausted, depleted and burned out
-
Like you don't know who the real you is, without having to mask to make yourself seem OK
-
Overwhelmed by your senses, your emotions, or life in general
-
Having meltdowns or shutdowns (or both)
-
Feeling drained in relationships with family, friends, or a partner - like the same things keep going wrong
-
As if you now have a million unanswered questions about yourself
-
Like you need to process the grief of how things have been, and how you will never be the person who thought you were
What if there's actually nothing actually wrong with you?
I believe that the only things wrong with the neurodivergent experience are the impossible expectations we've been handed. The mismatch between the person's needs and their environment can cause all manner of mental health issues.
Most therapies - and therapists - work on the assumption that the client has an average, neurotypical mind. Therapy can therefore leave autistic, ADHD and AuDHD people feeling like they're not very good at therapy, or that it's made no change, or at worst - it can actively harm us.
I offer "neurodivergent-affirming" therapy. This means that I start from the premise that your brain processes the world in a different way. It is a difference, not a deficit. Therapy isn't the task of making you fit into the world. It is to help you understand yourself more clearly, and shape your life and your environment in a way that works for you.
Whether you're autistic, ADHD or AuDHD, with or without a "diagnosis" - you're welcome here.
About me
I know what it feels like to discover yourself late
I’ve always been drawn to understanding people. As a teenager, I’d spend hours reading about mental health simply because it fascinated me. I did a degree in Psychology with Clinical Psychology, then a Master’s in Cognitive Rehabilitation. I had a clear plan to work as a psychologist - or so I thought.
In my early twenties, things fell apart. I was anxious, burnt out, and relying on coping strategies that weren’t helping me. I wanted to feel better, but I didn't know how to. I had all of the theoretical knowledge of "mental health", but none of the self-understanding to get better.
Two things changed everything. One was discovering I’m autistic at 30 (and more recently, ADHD too). Finding this out, and exploring it in therapy, reframed a lifetime of feeling fundamentally wrong. It wasn't that I was broken. I was finally able to understand myself with clarity and compassion. My mental health struggles were the symptom of living a life where there was a mismatch between my needs and my environment.
The second was finding Transactional Analysis (TA). TA gave me a framework that made sense of my inner world, other people’s, and the dynamics between us. It offered a way of navigating life that actually felt liveable. Through my own therapy and ongoing clinical training, I found a path forward that was kinder and far more aligned with who I actually am.
I feel much better now. I have a solid foundation for my wellbeing. It matters to me that I pass this gift on to people who also want to feel better in themselves and in their lives. It is a privilege to help people understand themselves more clearly, and make changes that genuinely improve things.
